History of St. Mary’s Outreach Center

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church opened its doors around 1860. In 1964, the church responded to the need for affordable housing for the elderly by building the first Roland View Towers and then Roland Towers East in 1967. These two apartment buildings continue to provide affordable housing for older adults.

In 1999, St. Mary’s closed its doors. In 2002, working with the Hampden community, the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland opened an outreach center for ministry and service to the residents of Roland View Towers and Roland Towers East. In 2007, St. Mary’s Outreach Center became a nonprofit 501(c)(3) working independently from the Episcopal church.
